Active principle

Active principle: bilateral hemisphere stimulation – the alternating left/right activation of both brain hemispheres.

The active principle of Hemi-Balance is based upon a left/right activation of both brain hemispheres using sounds, as employed in wingwave® coaching and for EMDR. You can only achieve the desired effect using headphones.

What effect does the bilateral hemisphere stimulation produce?

Normally we process the day's events and experiences during sleep. When one is troubled, people often say “Just sleep on it.”

The active principle behind is physiological and psychological reprocessing during so-called REM phases in the night while we are asleep – REM stands for rapid eye movement. REM phases can be recognized as the sleep phases, in which we dream and our eyes dart backwards and forwards while still closed.

However, our increasing daily intake of information overburdens our psyche and the frequency and length of REM phases are no longer sufficient for the reprocessing of our experiences. This results in some of our stressful daily experiences not getting processed. As a consequence, this may result in a range of physiological and psychological effects, such as insomnia, sudden ravenous appetite, reduced ability to manage work-life, performance blockades, restlessness, emotional withdrawal, listlessness, and self-doubts.

The alternating left/right activation of both brain hemispheres produces an effect similar to that achieved in REM phases. This reactivates the incomplete reprocessing mechanism thus releasing stress.
